Tailings are waste products from mineral processing. In order to extract a valuable mineral or metal from the ore, the rock is crushed to a fine size class using mechanical and chemical processes. All residues with a minimum content of a useful component, unsuitable for further processing, are sent to waste. The waste contains finely ground rock dust, chemicals, minerals and water. depending on the method of enrichment, the tailings can be liquid, solid or represent a suspension of fine particles.

Tailings are used to store water and waste generated as a result of rock enrichment. Tailings ponds are huge reservoirs. when the tailings are piped to the tailings, the solids settle to the bottom and the water is reused in the process.
